KNOW MY NAME by Chanel Miller

Chanel Miller first became famous as Emily Doe in the 2015 sexual assault case involving former Stanford student Brock Turner. With KNOW MY NAME, she claimed her real identity and so much more. It’s one of those books where people say, “Boy, if everyone would read this, our world would be so much better.” 

If you’ve ever considered that victims, or families of victims, come forward to seek anything more than truth and acknowledgement through the American justice system, you’ll understand that there is nothing to be gained. It is brutal, traumatizing, dehumanizing. No amount of attention or money is worth the ordeal of trying to seek “justice” in America. It’s only the belief that the truth matters.

Miller’s words are real, honest, descriptive, beautiful, powerful and—despite it all—hopeful. I’m in awe of her clarity and courage. In honor of Women’s History Month, be sure to send love to the women in your life, especially those of color, and consider reading this book.
